The German Society for Education was founded by the German minority and is generally occupied with matters of German language education in Poland.

Much has changed during the last ten years in Upper Silesia in this field. Under Communist rule, the German language was not taught throughout Upper Silesia. However today, more than 200 primary and 50 secondary schools offer sup-plementary German lessons. In numerous cities and communities bilingual schools were founded where German language courses are offered in various subjects.
The society is active in the fields of teacher continuing education, conception of teaching modalities and distribution of school materials.

To help children to learn German from an early age, the society develops projects for bilingual kindergartens in close coope-ration with the Institute of Foreign Relations in Stuttgart.

Part of the society is "Jugend-ForumMlodych", an institution coordinating youth activities. Among its regular activities are seminars and workshops to train young people how to form and organize a youth group. The Forum also gives advice on how to prepare and manage self-starting projects.
